The following Books To Prisoners (B2P) initiatives take place at Spartacus Books:
- Used book donation drop-off point
Books To Prisoners primarily sends out donations of used books. If you have books you would like to donate to B2P, bring them Spartacus! We hold onto books temporarily before they are taken to B2P’s main storage.
Note: B2P cannot take anything but books on their current wish list.
Check the wish list frequently as what’s in demand changes. There is not enough space to take books that prisoners do not ask for much.
- Buy a Book for a Prisoner Program
You can buy a book off our shelves to donate directly to a prisoner! Some titles and topics are frequently requested by prisoners but rarely donated to B2P.
We’ve inserted Buy Me For a Prisoner cards inside books that people in prison consistently ask for. After purchase, you can leave the book with the volunteer on shift and be assured it’ll get in the hands of a prisoner who wants it.
- Monthly book packing parties
Spartacus holds space for (roughly) once-a-month events for packing boxes of books to send into prisons. Packing parties involve wrapping bundles of books, addressing them, and packing the bundles into boxes. We have tea and coffee and often snacks. Meet people and help prisoners get the books they ask for! Check the B2P Instagram for dates and times.

Many thanks to B2P for donations of funds, electronic equipment, and tote bags with the B2P logo! These sturdy, popular tote bags are given away for free to Spartacus patrons. Call ahead to check if we have any on hand.
